Powers And Abilities
Strengths:
Éponine doesn't really have a lot of those. Or, at least, ones that would serve her well in a fight. She's been in a few street brawls and can defend herself well enough, but there's no real skill to it, even if she is a bit stronger than she looks. She also keeps a small knife in her boot, and can use it well enough in a pinch. It's mostly for self defense, if anything, and again, there's no skill in it. Mostly, she'll just blindly stab or swing her punch and hope she hits something. She's also quite a talented pickpocket, and while this isn't exactly a skill to be proud of, it's one of her only ones, and it's helped her to survive for this long. And she definitely won't hesitate to use it, should the need arise. She's also quite the streetwise young girl, but that won't serve her well in any new place, until she finds out the lay of the land. Luckily, she tends to do that rather quickly.
Weaknesses:
She's human, of course. Eponine can, in fact, be shot, stabbed, strangled and otherwise killed and injured in every nasty way a human being can be. She's also on the emaciated side, and while she's a bit stronger than she looks, her physical condition is not at all the best. She's actually quite unhealthy when it comes down to it.
Weapons And Equipment:
She keeps a knife in her boot, but that's about it.[/size]
Personal Information
Personality:
Éponine is, for lack for a better word, tough. Though she was a rather spoiled and bratty girl as a child, one does not live on the streets of Paris for nine years without acquiring at least something of a strong exterior. Things that might shock anyone else are nothing but a daily sight to her. She isn't an easy girl to rattle or scare, and one would have a time of it if they wanted to.
That being said, it's a common occurrence for creatures with a tough exterior to have a soft interior. And, at times, this is quite true of Éponine. Secretly, she longs to leave her life on the streets for the one she was promised as a child: a rich, comfortable life with everything she could ever dream of having. However, her bitter and jaded view of the world doesn't quite allow for her to hope to ever have any life but her own. It's common to find her fantasizing about this life, however, she doesn't disillusion herself into thinking she might actually have it.
Her love for Marius Pontmercy knows little in the way of bounds. She would, quite literally, die for him and was entirely prepared to before she was taken. Éponine is almost completely devoted to him, even if she knows he can never truly be his. Her life seems to be quite made up of longing for things that are just out of her reach. Still, even though he loves another, Éponine would do anything to prove her devotion to him, and perhaps receive a bit of affection in return.
History:
Éponine is the elder daughter of M. and Mme Thénardier, who ran an inn in the town of Montfermeil. A woman named Fantine and her illegitimate daughter Cosette arrive. Upon seeing Éponine, Fantine asks the Thénardiers to take care of Cosette while she goes to look for work in her hometown. The Thénardiers agree on the condition that she send them money to pay for the child. However, the Thénardiers abuse Cosette and use her as forced labor while pampering Éponine. They also send letters to Fantine requesting financial help for Cosette, which is their own fraudulent way to extort money from her for themselves. This occurs for five years.
On Christmas Eve 1823, Jean Valjean arrives at the inn with Cosette after finding her retrieving water at night in the woods alone. During the short time he stays, it becomes apparent that Éponine is unkind to Cosette as well, telling on her to her mother when she tries to play with her discarded doll. After seeing this, Valjean briefly leaves the inn and returns with a beautiful new doll (which Éponine had admired on a shop window earlier) to give to Cosette, which she happily accepts. Éponine becomes jealous of Cosette for the first time.
The next morning, Christmas Day, Valjean pays off all of Fantine's debts to the Thénardiers and takes Cosette away.
Over the course of the next nine years, the Thenardiers lose their inn to backruptcy, forcing them, and in turn, Eponine out into the streets of Paris. She learns quickly to steal and cheat to survive, often helping her father's gang in their robberies. She also meets Marius Pontmercy, a rich student studying nearby. The two become friends, and over time, Eponine falls desperatly in love with him, though the feeling is entirely unrequited. Even so, she tells herself that there might just be a way for a man like Marius to love her, a hope that is dashed instantly once Marius falls in love with a girl he meets on the street in Paris, who turns out to be Cosette.
Upon Marius' request, Eponine reluctantly finds Cosette's address for him, taking him to finally meet her in her garden. She waits outside the gate as they talk, guarding the house from her father and his gang once they turn up. In order to prevent them from robbing Cosette's father's house, and in turn, discovering Marius and Cosette, she screams to get the attention of the entire street, before fleeing with Marius.
The next day, the barricades the students have been talking about arise, and Eponine joins Marius there, just wanting to be wherever he is. He gives her a letter to deliver to Cosette, to keep her away from the fighting, and she leaves to deliver it. She gives it to Cosette's father with the promise that she will read it in the morning.

[This is from another site, just to let you know <3]
It had been raining in Paris, and it was raining here. That, Éponine noted, was the only similarity between the place she'd inhabited only a few minutes ago. Staring out at the street from her vantage point in an alleyway with wide eyes, the girl attempted to make sense of what she was seeing. Buildings all around her stretched all the way to the sky, taller than anything she'd ever see, even in Paris. And there were so many windows on them! Éponine briefly wondered just how much glass had been needed to cover each and every one.
In the street just outside where she was crouched, wheeled things flew by, faster than any carriage ever could. They weren't propelled by anything, certainly not horses, and she couldn't help but retreat a little as one passed by, a loud noise that came from it making her covers her ears for a moment. Normally, Éponine prided herself on being hard to scare or rattle, but in this horribly strange new place, all of that simply disappeared. She never thought she'd ever wish to be home again, where nothing but misery awaited her, but at least there, things were familiar and not so terrifying.
She trembled from fear and the cold that was so quickly settling in around her. The tan duster she wore over her chemise and skirt was rapidly becoming soaked through with rain water, and the thin material could only keep her so warm before the wind was able to slice right through it.
Her eyes scanned the street, briefly dazzled by the presence of so much light. Huge things attached to the side of the building flashed colors and bright lights, most of them featuring words in another language that she couldn't understand, no matter how hard she tried to read them. Despite her background, Éponine could read and write as well, but she couldn't understand a word of what was in front of her.
What was even providing the light? Éponine couldn't imagine there being so many candles, something might catch fire at any moment and the entire building would be ablaze. No, it had to be something else, most likely something she wouldn't understand. Slowly, she stood from her crouch, moving out of the alleyway and into the street. Best to keep moving, she thought, and perhaps find something, anything in this place that made some semblance of sense. The street was crowded, too much for her liking, but staying in that alleyway wasn't going to do anything for her.
Even the people in this place were strange. Were they all poor, she wondered, for most of them only had one or two layers of clothing? And some of the things the women wore! Éponine could hardly imagine the prostitutes of Paris wearing such...suggestive clothing, and yet, it seemed common enough here, even in the rain. She pulled her coat closer around herself, desperate for any warmth it might provide. A few of the people she passed looked at her oddly, and Éponine even caught sight of a group of girls watching her and whispering among themselves, though she couldn't quite make out what they were saying.
She paused, staring at them for a moment before carrying on. It didn't really matter either way, did it? What did matter was finding some manner of shelter for now. Everything else could be worked out later. But, how was she to find a place to stay in this place where she couldn't even read anything?
Finally, she caught sight of a park, a welcome thing among all these intimidating buildings. Casting a wary glance around the street, Éponine slipped inside the wrought iron gates, staring off down a path. Anything was better than being out there, and the trees at least protected her a little better. She shivered, glad the park was empty so no one would have to see her little moment of weakness. With a soft sigh, she moved to sit on a nearby bench, hardly caring that it was just as wet as she was. It didn't matter much anyway, she just needed a place to rest and try to sort all of this out.
