“Well, this is certainly an interesting place, isn’t it?” Kalas asked, quietly. He didn’t care much if other people heard him talking to the Guardian Spirit, but there wasn’t much point in drawing too much attention to himself so soon. It would probably just lead to unnecessary hassle...
‘It reminds me a bit of Diadem, but without the red clouds...’ The Guardian Spirit responded, silent to anyone save Kalas for the moment. At the comment, Kalas glanced about, taking in the style of the surrounding buildings. It was certainly ‘old-fashioned’, resembling Diadem more than any of the other nations of the nine skies. But as the spirit had said, it lacked the clouds, and without them it was very definitely not Diadem. ‘I know we’re not in the nine skies any more, but it’s still weird that everything’s so...different.’ Kalas mused; it was certainly a lot harder to work out what his next course of action should be when he knew so little about the place. So far he’d stuck with his usual habits when visiting new areas, and spoken to as many people as he could to see what he could find out.
‘But the best place to find out anything would be...Probably an Inn or a Tavern of some kind.’ Such a building probably wouldn’t be too hard to find, even small towns like Nashira usually had one, so he guessed a city this size would probably have at least two or three. “What do you think, should we try and find an Inn or something?”
‘It sounds like a good idea to me’
It hadn’t taken long to find such a building, The Bannered Mare, or something like that. It seemed like a relatively nice place, warm and welcoming even if it wasn’t as nice as Anna’s place back in Nashira. ‘And Kalas, just because the drinking age may be lower here, I don’t think you should-‘ “Yeah, yeah, I know, just keep it down for a little while, would you? If somebody hears you it’s going to cause all kinds of trouble...” Kalas muttered, though the sound was pretty much lost beneath the buzz of general chatter. The Guardian Spirit said nothing, and though Kalas couldn’t tell if that meant it was angry with him or not, it was all the same to him.
After a brief glance around, a small gathering near the corner of the room caught Kalas’ attention. From what he could see, the point of interest was two men playing cards, but he doubted that was all there was to it if it had managed to draw people over. Curious, Kalas approached, asking one of the men who was watching who he thought was winning.
“I don’t know who he is, but the fellow in the hat hasn’t lost a game all day from what I hear!” Well, that was more than enough to keep Kalas’ interest.
