Personal Information
Personality:
William Burns or "Captain Burns" was popular and well-respected for his courage, charismatic leadership and seamanship by his men. William is well-mingled and outgoing with his fellow sailors and Royal Marines at below the deck while maintained captain-subordinates relationships with them on the ship. He cared each of his men as part of his family regardless their social status, and willing to make his sacrifice for their sake. He is also cheerful and polite to those who he newly met despite even they are enemies-who-surrendered.
Despite numerous personal feats of extraordinary skill and cunning, William belittled his achievements by numerous rationalizations, remembering only his fears. In truth, William described himself as "unhappy and lonely", his chief characteristics are not so much his courage and skilled seamanship as his intense reserve, introspection and self-doubt. Williams regarded himself as cowardly, dishonest, and, at times, disloyal — never crediting his ability to persevere, think rapidly, organize, or cut to the heart of a matter.
History:
William Burns was born in Hampshire on 1782, as the only son in the family. William's family nonetheless came from a nautical family. His grandfather was aboard HMS Wager when that ship was wrecked on the coast of Chile in 1739 and later served as boatswain of HMS Indefatigable. His uncle was a Sailing Master of the brig HMS Seagull in 1799. Both of his parents died due to some tragic fire accident in Hampshire and William went live with his uncle who is the Sailing Master on HMS Seagull. There, William learned everything about seamanship and life of a sailor.
At very young age, William attended academy and passed as a lieutenant in Royal Navy. He served as Second Lieutenant on HMS Grace and fought in several naval battles during Napoleonic War. Being a Second Lieutenant on HMS Grace, William is not only well-respected and well-maintained with the sailors, the captain of HMS Grace befriended him as well.
William received his scars on his face during a battle on the shore with the French forces, as he shielded himself for a Royal Marine from a French soldier. His courage and selfless act were caught attention of a British navy admiral and few months later, William Burn is promoted as a captain. Commanded his Royal Navy HMS warship Eclair for the first time, William and his sailors sailed to several places and battlefields, against the Spanish and the French naval forces without failure.
Recently, William returned from Battle of Trafalgar along with his sailors and HMS Eclair until some vortex swallowed the whole vessel into an unknown world.
Sample Post
Seagulls were circling on her, the HMS warship Eclair along with the unconscious sailors, Royal Marines and their captain on the quarterdeck. Each of them groaned in pain and dizziness, especially their captain got up while adjust his bicorne hat and rubbed his forehead. "Report any damages!" the captain yelled as he walked smoothly on the deck while the sailors began to check and yelling, William inserted his hand into his coat and grabbed out his telescope. Each of the sailors reported there were no damages on her, not even a single scratch on her.[/size]
"Eclair is in good-shape sir! She's a hard lass!" one of the sailors reported in his Scottish tone and William looked through his telescope and scanned the sea. There isn't a single island or archipelago in front of Eclair, nothing but the endless ocean. "Mister Macdaw?!" William shouted for his navigator who were busy with his map and compass. "I have no idea where the bloody hell we are sir, this compass kept on circling around without stopping!" Macdaw complained as William approached and looked at the spinning compass. This is strange, why is the compass kept on circling around and it never stopped? Where did the vortex brought them to? "A ship is sighted, capt'n! East of Eclair!" a Royal Marine shouted from the mainmast.
William and Macdaw looked at the east and indeed saw a ship, the captain looked through his telescope again to scanned the unknown vessel. "French? Spanish?" Macdaw asked as William kept on gazed through his telescope. It was a corsair ship, but not a Turkish one... he never seen the flag before too. Without sudden, the corsair fired it's cannons and this provoked William widened his eyes. "Down! Get down!" he yelled and the whole sailors hit on the deck while cannon balls flew past Eclair. "Now lads! Let's help Eclair to give this corsair a proper British welcome! Raise the sail!"
