Tomonari Joshua Niul
Appearance: To start, he stands at a not so intimidating height of 5'8", and is rather skinny weighing in a 149 lbs. When he's described as skinny, it means he doesn't really have much muscle to him at all. Although his ethnicity is the equivalent of Aboriginal Australian and Japanese, he shows more of the former than anything in his appearance. One of the first things that are obvious about him is his very dark skin color. His hair color is black, and is pretty long. It is scraggy looking and curly, although he at least keeps it in a short ponytail... even if it doesn't do too much. The boy's eyes are dark brown, with a pair of thin framed, black glasses over them. His lenses on the glasses are rectangular in shape. In general though, he looks a bit older than he actually is.
In his clothing, he's pretty modest. First thing he can be seen wearing is a long sleeved shirt on the top, which is simple enough. Over that is a suit jacket which is open in the front, showing his long sleeved shirt underneath. As for pants, well, he wears a nice pair of semi-casual dress pants, held up by a simple belt. This sort of outfit is quite common with Tomo, so expect to see variations of this clothing. His shoes are a bit odd, which for one, are zipped up instead of having laces. The shoes are generally white, and each shoe has two, black stripes going across the foot area. Resting on the boy's left hip is a pretty decent sized, brown satchel, with the strap going from his right shoulder and across his chest. This bag hold various objects of importance, such as a case for his glasses, books, etc.

Powers And Abilities
Strengths:
- Book smart. Granted, he isn't all knowing or anything of the sort, but he's a pretty smart kid. Thankfully most of the general education and what not applies to other worlds.
- Speed. If there's an actual, physical trait about him that's of some use, it would have to be the fact that he can run pretty fast. He can't exactly go superhuman levels of speed, but if he needs to make an escape he is sure to get his sorry butt out of trouble!
- Cooking. Okay, so it's not so much a power as it is a handy ability. Tomo's a pretty darn good chef, which can be useful... maybe.
- Good Logic and Reasoning. Whenever he calms down enough to think properly, and assuming he has some understanding of the content at hand, this kid shows that he can put two and two together to the point where he can think of a hypothesis, conclusion, etc., for a situation.
- Inhuman Body. At least, compared to most humans elsewhere. The humans on his world have tougher bodies than other 'human' species, so he can survive attacks a little better than others. Granted, it doesn't give him THAT much of a defensive boost, partially because he hasn't exactly trained in defense.
- PSI. A power that mainly humans from his world can acquire, Tomo knows how to use PSI, which are essentially psychic powers. This requires him to use the focus of his mind to create various attacks and such that he knows. Typically, PSI is ranked from weakest to strongest in the following order; Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and finally Omega. Some exceptions apply, such as buffs only having 'Alpha' and 'Omega' ranks, or none at all (however, Tomo will always have ranks with his PSI, so he doesn't show the 'none at all' part).
PSI LIST: This is the list of PSI he currently knows. Note however, that if a space is left blank, he CANNOT use that level of PSI in that set.
PK Water:
- Alpha: He creates up to two walls of water, about four feet high and ten feet across, which rushes at his opponent(s). Each hit deals light water damage. Whether one or two waves are created is completely random, but can never be more than two waves unless it is cast rapidly.
PK Freeze:
- Alpha: A small, light blue hexagon shaped object with a snowflake in the middle is created, and sent at one enemy. Upon impact, it deals light ice elemental damage.
PK Twister:
- Alpha: A small surge of green wind is created, and sent at his opponent(s). Upon impact, it deals light wind damage, and can possibly trip the opponent. Obviously, larger opponents and those that can easily hold their ground would more or less be immune to the 'trip' aspect.
PK Nova: (Not acquired yet)
Life Up:
- Alpha: A small burst of green energy appears on the target, which heals him or her for a small amount of health. This can easily get rid of cuts and scratches, maybe a little bigger, but it's not all that useful for something more serious.
Healing:
- Alpha: Simply enough, a blue circle appears and, well, circles around a target, then disappears. This gets rid of one status effect, such as ongoing poison and blind statuses. There are restrictions to this level though, as for one, it can only get rid of one effect at a time. Also, stronger effects such as petrification are out of this abilitiy's league.
Offense Up: (Not acquired yet)
Defense Up: (Not acquired yet)
Weaknesses:
- Despite the fact that humans on his world are built tougher than normal humans... Tomo is physically weak. He can probably lift a heavy pot of food (albeit with difficulty), but anything more than that is out of his league. This also involves being hit with a physical attack.
- Socially Awkward. This really explains itself.
- Timid, so do expect him to be a pansy.
- Indecisive
- Abusing his PSI abilities can give him a pretty dang harsh headhache, even a migraine! So there are limits to how often he can use PSI. Generally, the stronger the PSI ability, the more effort he must use.
- Bad endurance... yeah, he can't exactly fight for long, or anything requiring endurance.
- Not street smart. Sure he has common sense, but the closest he has to street smarts is running away, and fast!
- He's still human, even if his species of 'human' is tougher. This means things like getting sick and stabbed are still possible with this kid.
- Not all that confident.
- Even better, he's not THAT great of a fighter, even if he has at least -some- form of combat experience, which is more often than not nothing more than simple strikes with his frying pan or using his relatively low level PSI.
- His vision is... pretty horrible when it comes to seeing things far away from his eyes, so his glasses aren't there to be pretty. If he loses his glasses, well... he's kind of screwed.
Weapons And Equipment:

- Frying Pan- His trusty, brought from home frying pan! Okay, so it's pretty weak for a weapon, but it DOES allow Tomo to use PSI easier, since he doesn't have to concentrate on holding its weight. Frying pans are pretty light after all!
- Mr. Saturn Plush Doll- More or less a thing he uses for comfort. Given to him by his birth mother.
- Satchel- That trusty bag that rests on his side! Holds various things of importance, such as books, money, etc.
- Clothes- The clothes on his back which have no real armor properties whatsoever!
- Cellphone- For those times when making calls is necessary! Granted, it's pretty unlikely that his cellphone plan works outside of his solar system...
Personal Information
Personality:
The first, and most obvious, thing about Tomonari upon meeting him, is that he is a rather timid teenager. His speech patterns involve quite a bit of stuttering, which may at times require him speaking some thought at least once more. However, he still tries to make sure his words are audible. It is also a common habit of his to apologize often, even if something was not his own fault, as well as thinking an apology is needed when it is not in general. Due to this, Tomonari’s own confidence is quite low, which makes him quite uncomfortable when speaking to strangers. This factor ties into the difficulty of putting Tomonari and brave in the same sentence. Granted, he won’t become frightened to extremes by something such as a gentle, accidental bump into someone, but other things such as an angry dog chasing him, will.
Although this may tie in with this timid personality, Tomonari is often worried about the things around him. For example, he quite often tends to make a conversation with someone he meets short, and attempts to make an excuse to get out of it. He isn’t a very good liar, however, so these attempts are easy to spot. His worry also tends to cause him to have short OCD moments, meaning a chore such as cleaning dishes may take him ten minutes longer than necessary. These aren’t often though, so it thankfully doesn’t warrant as a significant medical condition. It does tend to follow more into his homework more often though. When it comes to the actual world around him is when his worry acts up more, leading into the timid side of him. Tomonari is rather unsure about things, no matter how much reads up on a subject. When it comes down to it, he’s book smart, not street smart.
Despite these personality traits, he tends to be more polite on a regular basis. He clearly knows how to be respectful of people, and will try his best to make sure he doesn’t talk badly about someone, despite what his innermost thoughts and feelings are. This can be a downside, as if he does not speak what he is feeling, it may cause more trouble than he thinks. At times this can tie into Tomonari being rather responsible, and he makes sure he does things such as being on time for a meeting, cooking something properly, among other things. However, whether or not this involves itself with his actions is somewhat of a different idea, as at times there is still the sense of being unsure about things lingering there.
When it comes down to it though, he does have his own likes and dislikes, some of which can be quite helpful. Granted, some are assuming he opens up to someone about them. One of the top favorites of his is reading, and not just for school study. Tomonari will often come back to a novel after reading it once, especially if he enjoyed it. Mystery and detective based novels are a preferred area of fiction (although it’s a good ratio of hits and misses when it comes to him figuring out the culprit(s)). Despite not looking like the kind of guy who involves himself with sports, baseball seems to be something else he enjoys, assuming he gets the chance to play it. He won’t be talking about things like the latest scoreboard in a professional game and such, but offer him the chance to play for fun, and he’ll be rather tempted to join.
As for a more musical side of him, he generally enjoys music. Granted, he isn’t particularly fond of things such as rap and hip-hop, but orchestrated and rock sorts of genres are among what Tomonari can be caught listening to. Although, don’t expect things like ‘heavy metal’ and ‘death metal’ from him. This has led him to eventually pick up learning to play an acoustic guitar. He’ll often be heard playing it when alone, and when reading at times. It helps that he’s been practicing for a good four years. When it comes down to it though, perhaps nothing will beat his love for cooking. More often than not he can be found being the one to cook family meals and such, no matter if it’s his turn or not. Currently taking electives to do so, Tomonari is planning on becoming a chef later on in life. Oh, and he especially loves lobster, so look out for that.
There are some general things to keep in mind when it comes to dislikes. For one, he isn’t fond of a dirty kitchen. This really has to do with food safety, and he doesn’t want people to get sick from contaminated food. Although swaring is something he tends to hear out of people’s mouths generally, Tomonari doesn’t particularly feel comfortable when around foul words. Following this, he isn’t much of a fighter, so physical fights are something that really makes him uncomfortable being around. However, the big thing that really bothers him is such: Tomonari feels some sort of loose chain in his heart (figuratively), and despite wanting to fix it, he doesn’t know how to fill that gap up. Rather, he isn’t sure what to do exactly with this, it being a lesson he will probably learn with experience.
History:
Tomonari was born on a world called Maternion, a planet within the Andromeda galaxy. On this planet resides humans, whose bodies are built somewhat stronger than humans elsewhere, and have the capability to use PSI. Also dwelling on this planet are the creatures called digimon. This world is slightly futuristic in technology, but for the most part, it's still in what we would call 'modern' times. Whatever issues humans and digimon had when it came to species has been solved in this world's past, so none of those wars and what not are something he would have had to deal with during his lifetimes.
On to Tomonari himself, he was born to two human parents. His birth father was Dane Cahal (whose ethnicity is equivalent to Aboriginal Australian descent), while Tomo's mother was Saotome Cahal (ethnicity equivalent to Japanese). He was an only child, and for the first five years of his life things were relatively normal. During this time he spent a great deal of time with his mother, which resulted in him having a strong connection to the woman. One of the things which Tomo holds dearly to this day is a Mr. Saturn plush doll, which his mother had made and given to him. Considering that things were relatively normal, there wasn't many things of note to really mention. Since he hadn't had much time to develop as a person considering his youth, things changed drastically some time when he was five years old.
Tomonari and his parents were out one night with a few family friends for dinner. One of them to make note of was a Leomon named Ferghus Niul, who was Tomo's godfather. Anyways, the entire dinner went smoothly for the most part, but things didn't go entirely well once they got outside of the resturaunt. By chance, a digimon had forced itself to digivolve for the first time, but due to certain issues in doing such, the digimon's power drastically increased for a short time, although it went berserk as a result. Generically enough, it was also raining outside, so it was difficult to determine what kind of digimon this guy was. What didn't help either was the fact that the rouge digimon attacked Tomo, his family, and their family friends.
Due to the sheer increase in power, it was difficult to fight the digimon off. At one point Tomo and his parents were separated from the rest, with the boy's parents being forced to fight the mosnter off themselves. However, the digimon was too powerful for them to defeat, and as a result, Tomo's parents were killed right in front of him. Before the boy was attacked, however, his godfather Ferghus had rushed in and slammed the attacking digimon out of the way. It was only a short fight afterwards, as the digimon who went berserk had run out of energy, and dedigivolved back to his usual form. Due to the situation, the digimon ran away and successfully escaped. Tomonari's parents were dead, and now he needed someone to take hsi parents' place.
As... oddly expected, it was his godfather who ended up taking the boy in to raise from then on, with some persuasion needed of course. To be frank though, Ferghus Niul wasn't exactly the perfect father. The most Tomonari and this Leomon interacted involved simple conversations, and they never did form that great of a bond. However, Tomonari did realize that he had no choice but to go along with living with this digimon, even if the boy was scared of Ferghus. It didn't help either that the boy discovered the Leomon's drinking habits, although said nothing about it to anyone. Over time the experience of seeing his parents' deaths and living with a not so friendly to most people Ferghus began to cause Tomo to develop a timid personality.
Growing up there wasn't much about Tomonari that could be said, aside from things such as his enjoyment of reading. An important thing to note however, was his fondness of baseball when he was nine years old. For about a year, albeit hesitant at first to do so, he joined a baseball team. This year ended quite fast however, as he decided to stop playing baseball. He noticed how aggravated his godfather tended to be, and sadly Tomonari figured that having the Leomon take the boy to practice and what not made things harder to deal with. As such, he made that hasty decision to not play anymore, despite how fond he was of the game. He never explained this decision to anyone, for the sheer fact that he didn't know how to explain it. This situation was left alone, and Tomo just went on with growing up.
His timid nature as he went on soon led to things such as being paranoid, and him cutting himself off from people in general. All he ended up doing was study, chores, and other things. Sure he took an interest in cooking and detective novels, but it was never something he went through with aside from his own free time. However, another big thing he came across was learning how to play the guitar when he was eleven years old. This was something that again, he kept during his own free time, but managed to get himself to continue playing to this day. Granted all of this isolation did cause Tomo to become a smart kid in his own right, but at the cost of becoming socially awkward.
More recently for his fifteenth birthday, his grandfather for the boy's birth father's side, Sibald Cahal, took Tomonari out to get a birthday present. More specifically, it turned out that the old man was taking Tomo to get a puppy of his choosing (within reason of course). After much time of hesitation and prodding, he chose what was their world's equivalent of a siberian husky. The name chosen for this puppy was Galahad, who was a strange puppy. Apparently, he was a dog that had the powers of PSI, something strange for a non-human being. But this wasn't too much of a problem, as like Tomonari, this puppy's own powers weren't all too powerful. Being the responsible person he was required to be, Tomonari took good care of this dog to the best of his abilities.
However, things would soon change for the boy again. One day when he was home with his father and tending to their dogs (Ferghus had one of his own), the teenage boy felt woozy, eventually becoming unconcious. How or why this happened was anyone's guess, but Tomonari would soon wake up in a place he probably didn't want to be...
Sample Post
(Please note that this RP Sample is a post I've written for a Digimon RP on another board. However, it is still essentially the same character, albeit a different universe so to speak.)
Having strayed away from the usual scenery of the city, a teenage boy sat alongisde the bank of the Brisbane River, named after the exacty city in which it resides. Normally said teenager would've gone home by now, ready to do some more heavy reading. But today he got a call from home saying that he should take a break for a couple hours. This was from his grandfather, who was probably too happy most of the time. But Tomonari didn't complain about this, albeit feeling rather uncomfortable at times. Sure, the boy managed to get himself someplace quiet that would allow him to think, but the fact remained that he never really did anything like this. Each and every day he went through the same routine, not putting much thought into doing anything else.
That, and he wasn't sure how safe being out here alone was. It was a weird thought when one considered that he wasn't in the 'Outback' of Australia, and in a civilized area. But on the other hand, that didn't mean things wouldn't go bump in the night. Looking up at the sky for a few moments, Tomonari sighed as he continued his various thoughts from one end to the other. Perhaps he could do some reading here, it being a rather acceptable choice for some quiet time. Looking over at his satchel, which rested on the ground to his left, the teenager reached over, and began digging through it. The obvious things were still there, such as a textbook, a couple novels, notebooks, and even his case where he kept his digimon cards. Oddly enough though, he pondered about taking the case of cards out to look at.
For some strange reason, Tomonari had decided to look at the cards he had, despite not having any new ones. It was a bit interesting to him either way, so looking at his card multiple times wasn't a horrible idea. Besides it was something new which the teenager was a little glad he opened up to. Granted, it wasn't something that would do a complete and utter makeover of his current personality. Sighing, Tomonari began to look through his digimon cards in his hands. Most of them were of the beast or aquatic families, but there were a couple which were of others, such as Candlemon. Various cards were looked at, such as Leomon, Bearmon, Gomamon, and Swimmon. These were digimon he planned to use in his deck... assuming he actually played the card game with others.
Another strange thing happened as he came across another card. Tomonari had stopped his looking spree, and examined it for longer than he did the others. Such a card was the plant digimon, Floramon. It was of the Data attribute, and a Rookie level. When he first obtained this card, he did have a couple thoughts about putting it in his deck. However, it was more or less just an extra card he had. But now that he looked at it, there was a sense of attatchment to it. The boy wasn't sure how or why, but Tomonari didn't seem to care much when he came down to it. He began to have second thoughts about not putting it into his deck, and decided to make sure to find a place for it later.
Once more he paused to look at his surroundings. Everything around him was definately the same, not matter what he thought. Although things being the same meant that more or less everything was scary to Tomonari in some way, shape, or form. Sighing once more. he seemed to half zone out, but quickly returned to reality. He was having more second thoughts, this time about whether he should just head home now.
