Canon World/Face Claim: Legend of the Gaurdians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (Movie ver.)
Cbox Name: Ruukah
Other Characters: Leomon, Doviculus, Dorumon
Powers And Abilities
Strengths:
Physical: Nyra is a very capable fighter, and knows it. Besides using her fighting prowess when in battle, able to take out quite a few Ga'Hoole guardians without the use of Battle Claws, she combines the use of her claws, wings and beak to take down opponents or insubordinate Owls. Along with her skills, she is larger and taller than any other Barn Owl in the movie aside from Metalbeak himself (22 inches tall, Nyra is 20). Her eyes are rather intimidating, a piercing blue-hazel color, but on several occassions they glowed red during battle.
Ever since the battle with Soren and the Gaurdians, she has taken to wearing Battle Claws on occasion. These Battle Claws have a variety of capabilities:
* Fire claws - Similar to coal claws (Lit coals attached to the tips of the Battle claws), Fire claws are regular battle claws, but heated with red-hot coals, a step up from a set of coal claws. Also like the coal claws, they can inflict massive damage to an owl's talons.
* NAST's (Nickel Alloy Super Talons): Due to her Battle Claws coming from a deceased Ga'Hoole owl out on patrol, these Battle Claws are from their forgery. It is said that NAST's are able to split through solid rock due due to their reliability and strength.
Emotional: Nyra is strong willed and determined, not to mention cunning, making her uneasy to break mentally. She can easily deceive and taunt an opponent, lead them in to a false sense of security, and even manages to keep a level head most days.
Other: As a Barn Owl, Nyra has quite a lot of abilities suited for her species. Such as:
- Flight: Like most owls, the Barn Owl flies silently; tiny serrations on the leading edges of its flight feathers help to break up the flow of air over its wings, thereby reducing turbulence and the noise that accompanies it.
- Eyesight: As with other owls, the barn owl's eyes are locked into the skull sockets in such a way, that the owl must swivel the head to change its field of vision. Like people, owls have binocular vision, while other raptors' eyes are located on either side of the face. A barn owl's eyes are twice as effecient as a Human's in dim light, and are better at discerning outlines.
-Hearing: A barn owl's hearing is anywhere from 25 to 100 times more sensitive than ours. The ears are asymmetrical, with one set high on the right, and the other in an inverted position low on the left just inside and under the heart-shaped facial disk. Laboratory tests indicate that blindfolded barn owls can catch mice, using their hearing alone, and can not only locate a mouse by the sound of it's heartbeat, but can audibly discern the movements of one type of prey from another.
Weaknesses:
Love: Nyra truly loved her mate, Metal Beak, and she believed that He loved her the same way. As such, she despises Soren for killing him, and even the mere mention of his name can set her on edge, or even cause her to snap and strike out at others. To her, Soren's life is only her's to take...
Humans: At one point, Humans were known as Others and were based on myths and legends told by other Owls, as Others had been considered extinct long ago. Nyra has little to -no- knowledge about Humans besides what she has heard in books, and as such she has a tendancy, while being very curious about them, to underestimate them as well. The results of this can be either humorous or deadly, depending on what/who she is confronting.
Mortal: Having arrived here in the Game Master's realm, she has no idea that Humans are in abundance here, nor has she realized that she can use a disguise to fool the other Humans via magic chant. While her Disguise fools others and can be touched and whatnot, it cannot fool other Owls, as they will see her as Owl. None the less, while a very capable fighter, she is still mortal, and can be killed by numerous means. ((I will have the image I sketched up here soon.))
Weapons And Equipment:
Battle Claws: Ever since the battle with Soren and the Gaurdians, she has taken to wearing Battle Claws on occasion, stolen from the body of a Deceased Ga'Hoole Owl. Solid steel and rounded/edged at the ends so she can stab and slice in to foes with ease, black leather straps across the bottoms of the toes and feet to keep them in place. These Battle Claws increase her talons damage, reach, and deadliness. An owl armed with battle claws could rip an unarmed enemy to pieces within seconds, and so are the primary and most commonly used weapons. Lightweight, easy for her to fly/walk in.
Face Mask: Essentially a metal Helmet that covers the majority of her face/head and extends to the back of her neck, only a small part of her eyes are not overed so she can still see clearly. Elegant looking, steel colored. Wears it on occasion, mostly she just goes without.
Personal Information
Personality:
On the outside, Nyra appears to be a reasonable, kind, trustworthy Tyto/authority figure to most and uses all of these 'nicer' traits to her advantage, if she sees a position of power she will take it and works hard for it. But she also will use whatever position of authority she can get in order to increase her power or position in any way shape or form, while still showing respect, false or not, to those that have proved they are 'above' her. Her manners are impeccable and she speaks with a warm and friendly manner unless she deems it unnecessary, at which point her tone turns icy and condescending. Any slight towards the Late High Tyto, MetalBeak, or towards the Pure Ones is enough to set her against a person. She goes with the saying 'Remember, Weakness is for the Lower species, Never for us. Do you know why? Because we are Tytos. We are Pure Ones.'.
On occasion She repeatedly refuses to find fault within herself and is quite self-righteous, believing that everything she has done, whither it is forcing Owlets to be moonblinked (Hypnotized) to work for the Pure Ones as laborers or killing someone for disobeying her orders, has been for the greater good of the Pure Ones/Metal Beak himself.
She can be arrogant and sarcastic at times, as well as vengeful. If someone has wronged her she can and will take great lengths to see to it that their live are destroyed, and responds only mildly to flattery. She will not hesitate to use a false kindness to lure others in to a false sense of security, and will even lie straight to their faces if it means she can get any closer to her goals of becoming powerful. Mildly superstitious. She isn't above using her looks, either.
Being that she is a 'Pure One', she believes that All Tyto's (Barn Owls) are Superior to all other Owl races, and isn't above using violence or cruelty to teach any other disobedient minions that lesson. Prove yourself worthy of becoming a Pure One, worthy of winning a shred of her respect, and she may take a liking to you.
History:
First, before I begin with Nyra's History ( I will not be using her History from the Book, except for a small snippet), I would like to begin with the Pure Ones..*cough* Ahem~
The Pure Ones are a large owl organization consisting mainly of the family Tytonidae, more commonly known as Barn Owls, comprised of subspecies such as Tyto alba, Tyto tenebricosa, and Tyto multipunctata. Its main goal was to eliminate the Guardians of Ga'Hoole and "purify" the owl kingdoms. Their full name was the Tytonic Union of Pure Ones. It was possible for other Owls that weren't of Tyto origins, such as Long-Eared Owls (Jatt and Jutt, sublieutenants), to maintain high ranks.
The Pure Ones had a rigid social hierarchy, which regulated Barn Owls to different levels of purity depending on the whiteness of each species' face. At the top of the chain of command was the High Tyto and his mate, followed by the higher officers; they were always members of the Tyto alba species. They were followed by the Masked Owls (Tyto novaehollandiae), then Grass Owls. At the bottom of the social ladder were the Sooty Owls. Greater Sooties (Tyto tenebricosa) were better off than the Lesser Sooties (Tyto multipunctata) or any other Owl deemed 'unfit' to serve as warriors; however, the Sooties tended to be given dirty-sounding names like Mud Wings, Ash Beak, Dustytuft, or Smutty, and were also given the most menial and worst of jobs. Only Tytos are trained to join the Pure Ones fighting squad.
The Pure Ones value rage; they equate it with courage and had ceremonies intended to develop it. These ceremonies often included maiming and/or murder of other animals, often fellow owls. The most infamous of these ceremonies was the one called Tupsi, which called for the murder of a fellow owl close to the Pure One completing the ceremony, often a family member.
Any owl not belonging to the family Tytonidae was considered "impure" and therefore was either only fit to serve the Pure Ones on some of the lower ranks or be eliminated. Owls of the family Strigidae were often victims of Pure Ones' brutality, simply because they were not Tytos.
Little is known about Nyra's past, except that she hatched in the Northern Kingdoms on the night of a lunar eclipse. She was also said to have been named after a Nyra of ancient times who was also born on the night of an eclipse. Legend says that that night the moon fell from the sky and rose in the face of a hatchling. The significance of this event was that owls born on that night were bestowed with an enchantment of great power that was either meant for great spirit or pure evil. In Nyra's case, it turned out to be for pure evil. Eventually she came to the Southern Kingdoms and joined the Pure Ones alongside the old High Tyto after proving her worth to them.
Nyra was the Ablah General (Second in Command/Queen) of St. Aggie's, and was the mate of Metal Beak (a separate owl from Kludd). She was responsible for the forcing of young, kidnapped owlets to search for flecks, the magnetic particles she plotted with Metal Beak to use against the Guardians of Ga'Hoole. She believed Tytos, especially Tyto Albas, to be the most pure of all owls, and took a great interest in Kludd, believing him to be a valuable soldier for the Pure Ones army. She picked Kludd and several other Tytos, two presumably being a Sooty Owl and a Grass Owl, and trained them to be as ruthless and strong as the Pure Ones. She engaged Grimble in battle while Gylfie and Soren were trying to escape, and was unsuccessful at capturing them once she killed Grimble. When the Guardians inflitrated the Pure Ones' stronghold, she battled against them with her troops, though she withdrew from most of the fighting. She engaged Ezylryb in battle along with her mate, Metal Beak, when he returned to the Pure Ones' castle in search of their leader. When Metal Beak was killed by Soren, she withdrew with her troops, leaving the body of her mate behind.
After the battle, Nyra led her remaining Pure Ones to a great, abandoned Rock Quarry, presumably placed there by Others (Humans). once what was once Storage caverns was now their home, a place to recuperate. After a month or so, A great storm had brewed and the skies went incredibly dark.
When the storm had cleared, the Owls found that they were not in their home anymore and instead found themselves tumbling through the air, and after finding their wings they now take up residence in what is known as the Forbidden Forest, inside a great Oak tree deep within the darker part of the woods. Nyra, while wondering where exactly she was, grew curious about this new place and it's inhabitants, and decided to make the Forbidden Forest her main base of operations while traveling to and from various places, taking what notes she could, deciding that perhaps this place wasn't as bad as she originally thought...Now the only question was, how to regain and have the others here know the true strength of the Pure Ones, and how to get home...
Sample Post
The Night was cold and clear, stars twinkling overhead like slivers of ice and the moon bearing it's light down on all, giving everything a blue-tinged hue. Nyra stared up at the sky for a long time with a serious expression, the cool wind ruffling her feathers. It was here in this new Forest that the Pure Ones had made their new home only a month ago, The Great Ring.
The Great Ring is a small clearing surrounded by incredibly large Redwood trees that were hollowed out and carefully shaped in to the Pure One's new home to resemble something of an almost man-made fortress, with various branches melded and bound together to form platforms and walkways, and the clearing was big enough for a small Human to navigate the lowest section of the grounds and a small section of one of the small portions of the Library, but the largest sections were unable to be reached unless it could fly..or climb really well and not damage anything.
In a way, Nyra was bitterly reminded of the Ga'Hoole tree when the place was being constructed, just as large and imposing, if not larger, according to what she had heard of it. The Ring was alive and well with the sounds of either training warriors, the forgemaster at work or the Pickers down below. Despite their..setbacks, she hadn't stopped in Mining for the Flecks, small fragments of magnetic iron, which can interfere with the navigational system of birds, which relies on iron in the brain like a compass, in specific, and any other part of their brain in general. The Flecks were important. Important to their goals.
Nyra let out a small sigh and her expression shifted slightly, grim determination flashing across her face. "..If only you could see this, My lord. This land...it's utterly incredible. At the rate we're going, we should be back in full force within the next few moons..." She murmured in to the sky, shifting her position on the branch she was perched on. Before she could continue any further, there was a familiar clink of Battle Claws from behind her and Nyra turned her head. Behind her was a Guard by the name of Garrul, another Barn owl, red eyes glowing under his helmet. The Guard lifted his right wing in a sort of salute before bowing his head.
"My Queen, there is...something here that requests your presence on the Ground.."
Nyra narrowed her eyes as she shifted, turning to face him. "Something?" She questioned, tone cold. Garrul shivered. His Queen did not seem to be in a good mood.
"Y-Yes, Oh Purest. We do not know what it is. It lacks feathers completely, instead it bears four Horns and it appears to lack any eyes. It wears fabric, and carries some sort of weapon. It brings two others, perhaps it's own Guards. It..it said it wishes to speak to you under terms of an..Alliance.."
Nyra remained silent for a moment, before nodding her head softly. Her tone calmed, serious but not betraying any other emotion. If someone was here to speak of an Alliance, something that could possibly help the Pure Ones, she would see to it. "Take me to it then, and have three of our best Fighters accompany me, as well as a Scribe. I wish to record this moment." She replied. Garrul nodded, turning and taking flight with a blood-chilling screech screech and his Queen in tow, the two easily spiraling to what they call the Throne Room.
