Aphrodite
Basic Information
Age: Looks mid to late 20s. As for age, well she is a goddess/Immortal. It really isn’t specified, but she does call Hercules her “Big Brother”.
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rank: Wanderer
Canon/OC: Established canon.
Canon World/Face Claim: “Hercules The Legendary Journeys”, and “Xena Warrior Princess”.
Cbox Name: Meg
Other Characters: Lt. B’Elanna Torres, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman
Powers And Abilities
Strengths:
Create something out of nothing, make people fall in love or make them hate each other. Enchant scrolls or other objects. Mix and match clothes.
Aphrodite is basically a material girl so she uses her powers to mainly mix n match, party, and do her job. She is not as dumb as she leads everyone else to believe. Aphrodite lets those on Olympus and other mortals think she has nothing between her ears (others except her brother Hercules, and friends Gabrielle and Xena). She can heal mortals same as any god or goddess, however only if she has Athena’s blessing to heal. A caring heart; which had to develop over time.
Other than that her powers include: enhanced stamina, reflexes, senses, agility, teleportation, telekinesis, conjuration, regeneration, and invisibility (although if you are born a half god or half goddess you can see her when she is invisible), she can also create magical shielding. As the Goddess of love, she can cause people to be seduced with love and passion, jealousy or hate.
Weaknesses:
When angered Aphrodite can be easily manipulated, but will figure it out later. Her temples, Hercules, Gabrielle, Xena, and small children equal weaknesses. Aphrodite will eventually become mentally unstable if Ares looses his goodhood (powers).
She needs her brother, Ares, to be Immortal in order for her to keep her mind and not turn into a mortal herself. Love needs War. Also, Aphrodite’s powers get weak and can frizzle out and not work real well or the way they are suppose to work causing disaster if she really misses her husband, Hephaestus, if they had a fight, if she’s sad and/or depressed. Or if she is just totally bummed.
Sometimes Aphrodite just flat out makes mistakes; an occasional ‘oops’. Like the time she tried to help a sick little girl and accidentally put Xena inside the little girls body, and when she popped a young woman to the market to save her life; that was a mistake.
Or when she tried to help her ‘Big Bro’ Hercules on a mission.
Weapons And Equipment:
Aphrodite doesn’t carry any weapons. As for equipment…only a beautiful smile and the same ‘assets’ that can be found on other women.
Personal Information
Personality:
At first Aphrodite was all about herself. She was a very vain and selfish goddess, and cared more about appearance and herself than anything else. Scheming goddess, devious and seemed almost as uncaring as Ares, she quickly developed into a more benevolent fun-loving goddess, though still prone to mood-swings.
She is also the only member of the Olympian family apart from Zeus, Hercules seems to have any sort of close relationship with (in one episode he refers to her as his favorite “little sister”, and is somewhat close to her son Cupid who refers to him as “Uncle Herc”), despite the trouble she seems to cause him. However, that all changed slowly over time (except the mood swings). After meeting Iolaus, Gabrielle, and Xena. Joxer is an okay person too. And helping her brother Hercules. Mortals couldn’t be all bad!
She is one of the few on Olympus that actually cares about the mortals. She even turned one of her temples into a hospice! That aside Aphrodite is a bubbly, perky goddess that loves to surf, make people fall in love, cause little problems just for fun, but nothing too bad or too mean. She’s not always on the clue bus when it comes to rescue plans made up by Hercules or Xena unless they are planned together. Aphrodite loves to have fun and go to parties, but don’t make her mad or you’ll be suffering greatly with your love life!
History:
Aphrodite first appears rising out of the sea in a giant seashell. She then uses the seashell to go windsurfing. First portrayed as being spiteful and selfish, and very immature at times, as shown with her feuds with Discord and her son, Cupid, she does mature as the time progresses. She becomes close friends with Gabrielle, even standing up against Athena to protect Gabrielle, during the Twilight of the Gods, though she seemed to honestly fear Eve (Xena’s daughter) and the Twilight, and grows fond of Xena.
She also shows a bond with her brothers, Ares and Hercules. She treats Hercules as the protective older brother and grew close to him, often taking his advise and helping him, unlike some of the other Olympians, even calling him “Big Bro”.
Her marriage to Hephaestus was somewhat like the story of Beauty and the Beast. While changing careers because she’s sick of the ‘love gig’ Aphrodite covers Hercules hero territory, helping his sidekick Iolaus. Along the way she gets afraid and pops out and into the forge, taking a seat in a chair ‘Heph’ made and gets trapped. The two end up talking and falling in love. Before that, Aphrodite got a chance to know what it was like to be mortal due to a spell she cast on Gabrielle’s scroll due to Ares manipulation.
Some people trashed one of her temples and graphite them with words such as: ‘elect Xena god’. Because of her anger she was able to be easily manipulated enchanting the scroll so whatever Gabby wrote would come true. Aphrodite became mortal when Gabby wrote ‘the force that enchanted the scroll lost all its power’. It was a very awful time for the goddess of love! She totally failed the whole mortal hygiene thing.
And because there is so much more on the character here are two links: Link one and Link two. I hope tis acceptable. Also, a tad of her history is in her personalitly.
Sample Post
“Dear Goddess Aphrodite, please help me. I ask of you, please help me to woe Penelope. She’s the whole world to me. I don’t know what she wants. Alexander.” Aphrodite read aloud while getting a massage. There were so many lonely people out there. Next to Ares, the goddess of love had to get the most mail, and beseechments. All these scrolls so neatly stacked were from lonely people seeking love, or people asking how to put the spark back in their marriage or love life.
A few could be quite depressing.
“Of course you don’t know what she wants Alex. If you did you wouldn’t be writing me.” Aphrodite so casually said to herself. Letting out a sigh Aphrodite tossed the scroll to the side, and picked up another. “Oh yeah!” the goddess exclaimed with a smile as she continued to read. “This is way…” Aphrodite was cut short as she heard someone calling out her name. She rolled her blue eyes.
Now was not really the best time! Suddenly she heard a vase go crashing to the floor in one of her temples, shattering into tiny little pieces. “Later boys!” Aphrodite disappeared in a golden shimmering light and reappeared in one of her temples in Crete.
“Watch it! These are antiques!”
“Aphrodite?!” The man inside was startled by her sudden arrival and accidentally knocked over another vase. Aphrodite’s eyes went wide with horror.
“Could you be anymore clumsy?! Just,” Aphrodite held both hands out, palms facing the man in a way that suggested she was trying to sturdy him; keep him from falling or knocking anything else over. “stay where you are. Don’t move.” The goddess of love inhaled and then exhaled. “Alright, what do you want?” Aphrodite finally asked as she folded her arms across her chest.
“Oh. Uh…well…” The man swallowed. “did you get my petition?”
The goddess of love started to laugh heartily. “Sweetie, I get so many! Do you think you could please be a little more specific?” Aphrodite was in a better mood now.
“I’m Alexander.” The man stated as he started to twiddle his thumbs.
Pointing at him, she smiled wide. “The one that wrote about Penny right? Yeah, I did.”
Seeing him and his actions, well… “Alright, I’ll give you a little advice.” Aphrodite said gently as she walked over and put an arm around Alexander. He seemed like a nice kid.
“Firstly, no man is ever going to understand a woman. The two genders think way too differently! Women will remember everything you said or didn’t say, but should have said. Fins or feet make no difference.” Aphrodite snapped her fingers.
Alexander and Aphrodite disappeared in a golden shimmering light and reappeared together out in a forest that frankly had quite a view. If you walked all the way to the edge you could see the vast ocean, and to the right was a large waterfall. The rest of the place was completely fauna. Trees, grass, flowers.
“Isn’t this place lovely?! It can be very inspiring too!” Aphrodite squeed with excitement as she made a scroll and quill appear in Alexander’s hands. “Poetry in motion, well, almost.” Dite sat down on a large rock and crossed her legs. “Did I forget to mention that poetry is one of Penny’s favorite things? She’s a hopeless romantic.
I know she’d love it if you wrote her a poem, or better yet, a poem about her…from your other petitions I know that roses remind you of her lips, and that the sun reminds you of the golden rays in her hair, and that the ocean reminds you of her eyes. So, why don’t you just write down all these things and tell her and not me?”
“I didn’t think of doing that.” Alexander admitted.
“Well duh silly. If you did think of doing it I wouldn’t have brought you here.” Dite lightly shook her head. “If you have any other problems please try and work them out yourself first. Majority of women like confidence in a man. Okay? Later!” And with a wave of her hand Aphrodite disappeared.
