Ragna
Basic Information
Age: Twenties.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Rank: Wanderer.
Canon/OC: Canon.
Canon World/Face Claim: Blazblue.
Cbox Name: Ragna.
Other Characters:
Powers And Abilities
Strengths:
Ragna’s strengths lie within his Blood-Scythe weapon, Azure Grimoire, and the abilities he uses that summon different parts of the Black Beast, to which he makes the body up of. Ragna also appears to be a very, very capable combatant, having been trained by Jubei who in the world of Blazblue is the strongest crature alive. Ragna has been seen taking out a number of NOL squad members by himself and when the Azure Grimoire is activated, Ragna enters a state of power that increases his physical attributes, at the cost of his own life force. This mode has been dubbed "Blood Kain", due to Ragna shouting the set of words before activation.
Weaknesses:
Ragna’s main weakness lies within the Azure itself. The more Ragna continued to activate the Azure and enter Blood Kain, the more of it’s life force it continues to suck away, Ragna sacrificing it for a higher performance. In Ragna’s Bad End during Continuum Shift, it was shown that if Ragna activates the Azure too much, he will revert to the original form of the Black Beast, and the world will fall under an immense apocalypse. So, all in all, the Azure Grimoire and it’s effects themselves are Ragna’s greatest weakness (and, well, only physical weakness).
Weapons And Equipment:
His weapon of choice is the Blood-Scythe, a weapon that supplements his ability to steal life force with each strike. The Blood-Scythe initially takes on the form of a giant sword with a giant slab of metal resembling a blade. The weapon can change into a scythe-like weapon to effectively steal more energy from the foe through his Drive, Soul Eater (which involves summoning parts of the Black Beast). One of the main reasons Ragna is hunted down is because of his possession of the Azure Grimoire in his right arm, an incredibly powerful form of Ars Armagus sought out by many which grants its wielder power from the Boundary. The Azure Grimoire enhances the powers of whoever wields it. In the case of Ragna, he enters a more powerful state known as Blood Kain, enveloping him in a dark aura that doubles his attack power at the cost of his life energy. Later onwards the Azure Grimoire downloads Lambda's Idea Engine, removing Hazama's control over it and granting Ragna access to the True Azure.
Personal Information
Personality:
Ragna’s personality usually can be accredited to the loner stereotype, at least when he is normally by himself or acting around certain people. He can be cold, and has even been known to push people away, describing them as mere annoyances. One of the reasons Ragna forced Noel away from him was because he said she was just “getting in the way”, though in reality he had done it because she reminded him too much of Saya. Ragna usually does not speak in long, drawn out speeches and instead chooses to use his fists, Blood-Scythe or Azure to deal with someone instead of words. Ragna appears to be a “tough lone wolf” guy in appearance alone, and his personality matches up perfectly with those two stereotypes.
Despite being this loner stereotype, Ragna has shown moments of his softer side. Despite the fact he gets easily annoyed by her, Ragna still holds Rachel at arms length in a friendship relationship. As well, when Nu/v-13 ends up being killed by Terumi, Ragna aims to avenge her death and get revenge for all Hazama had done. The best moment that shows Ragna’s softer side is when we see him find out Saya is the Imperator, and the times that he is shown around Saya. Ragna has a soft spot for Saya, being the best ‘big brother’ he could be to her. Noel and Nu were treated special due to the fact that they looked like Saya, which is the only reason that Ragna decided to give Noel the time of day and Nu his attention, despite her obsessive tendencies. Ragna also seems to be kind to Taokaka, since they are childhood friends, and he can be nice to random people he doesn’t know, considering out of the many they aren’t people aiming for his Azure or the large bounty currently located upon his head.
Keeping secrets or hiding something from Ragna is rather hard to do, though this can mainly be accredited to the fact that Ragna’s perception abilities are high. One example of this is the fact that, despite being in the same body, Ragna was able to tell that Luna and Sena were merely souls/personalities conjoined in the same body. While Ragna has high perception skills, his intelligence can be rather… lacking, in some fields. It takes Ragna quite a while to figure out more complicated things such as math, and it has been shown that Ragna is only intelligent when it comes to common sense, street smarts and general knowledge. Book smarts are one of Ragna’s many ‘weak’ areas, and if someone were able to use them to outsmart him, Ragna would be at a huge disadvantage.
Stubborn. Ragna could be a mule in this case, in the sense that Ragna usually does whatever he has his sights set on and doesn’t let anything deter him. Ragna is headstrong in this department, deciding to not give up even though he is in a losing battle. Such example would be when Hazama disabled Ragna’s usage of the Azure Grimoire, or at the very least the imitation he had. He still didn’t give up, and continued to fight Hazama until Nu got in the way, enabling him with the Idea Engine. Ragna also doesn’t seem to ever stay down unless forced, which can also be another weakness considering Ragna is liable to end up dying on his feet if in the proper situation. When the better idea would be to retreat, Ragna would decide against it, most likely stating that he refuses to run away from the enemy and show them his unguarded back.
To deviate from Ragna’s own personality, we now go into the specific relationships he has, starting with Rachel, Jubei, and Taokaka. Rachel and Jubei have been by his side since the Azure Grimoire was fixed into his arm, after Hazama sliced it off. Jubei is Ragna’s master, the one who taught him how to fight, and generally has kept himself as a father figure toward Ragna. Rachel on the other hand… has been one of Ragna’s “friends” but at the same time, one of the many annoyances he has to deal with. Rachel is the one who blooded him, turning his previously blond hair white and his one eye red. Still, Rachel has been on Ragna’s side and his Rachels for as long as Ragna can remember. Taokaka, compared to these two, has been around Ragna for most of the time but not as long, being one of Ragna’s childhood friends. It’s safe to say Ragna holds Taokaka as a close friend, and it seems that nothing she does can irritate him, only making him laugh or crack a grin. However, like everyone, even Tao has her moments when she irritates him, specifically when the two met up again after all those years. Taokaka is one of the very few people in the Blazblue universe that can actually put Ragna in a good mood/make him smile, and for that she has earned a close place to him.
Jin Kisaragi, Saya, and Noel. Each of these three have their own special place in Ragna’s heart. Jin, his younger brother, seems to hold a love/hate relationship with Ragna. Rarely when the two meet up are they not fighting, though with their split professions, it’s obvious to see. Where Jin joined the NOL, Ragna chose to fight against it. As well, for the longest time Ragna had Jin confused with Hazama, believing Jin cut his arm off and kidnapped Saya. While the two’s relationship only seems partially mended since the end of CS, they are still at each other’s throats more often than not, just showing the kind of sibling rivalry that seems to circulate a lot of brothers out there. Now, when we get to Saya, this is a very important topic. Saya is one of Ragna’s siblings, apart from Jin, and his only younger sister. Ragna is in love with Saya as much as a brother can love a sister, which is why he was so shocked to see that she was the Imperator of the NOL. Ragna’s connections with Nu, Lambda, and Noel all stem from Saya, due to the fact that each of them resemble Saya in appearance. That connection brings us over to Noel. Without even knowing her, due to the fact that Noel resembles Saya, Ragna seems to have built a strong connection with her, even allowing her to travel around with him despite the fact she is NOL, and should be one of his enemies. Ragna, at the end of CS had even sacrificed his arm for her, showing how much he cares for her. The bond between them is strong, so much so that Ragna is willing to go to any length to save her, despite the fact she’s practically a stranger.
Now, for the last relationship Ragna holds: Terumi Yuuki. Also known as Hazama, Terumi just seems to torment Ragna at every given damn turn. Whether it’s severing his arm and kidnapping his younger sister, trolling him on numerous occasions, or turning Noel into a Murakumo unit bent on destroying him, Hazama seems to just continue to do things to get on Ragna’s bad side. As well, Hazama is a Captain of the NOL, making him that much more of an enemy. Many people warned Ragna not to fight Terumi and that he would lose but that didn’t stop him, and Ragna continues to hate Terumi to the fullest extent to this day. The hate that Ragna holds for Terumi is actually one of the things that tethers him to this world and keeps him in existence, the other being that he has Saya, whom he kidnapped and fucked with, as an observer. Ragna overall despises Terumi and at the next chance, will pay Terumi back for the arm that he lost that fateful day within the past at the Church.
History:
Ragna’s past. A past once thought completely normal. During Ragna’s childhood, a blond, green eyed boy overtook the Ragna we know today. Ragna grew up in a very simple life, with his younger siblings; sister Saya and brother Jin. The three lived together in a church, though the relationship between the three wasn’t what you’d expect. Due to Saya being a rather sickly individual, Ragna focused most of his time upon her, which only began to anger Jin. Jin began to feel that he was merely the third wheel of the family, which caused him to grow insane. With a certain man named Hazama’s help, Jin not only burned the church down, but assisted in the kidnapping of Saya, and severed Ragna’s arm from his body. Throughout Ragna’s childhood the worst had yet to come, as he came across a tiny female vampiress; Rachel Alucard. Through biting him, Ragna’s right eye turned red, and his hair became snow white. Seithr, which had covered the planet since the days of the Black Beast, in the form of the Azure Grimoire replaced Ragna’s missing arm, and with it Ragna came across one of the Six Heroes; Jubei.
For years, Ragna was trained by Jubei, Jubei reluctantly assisting the young boy at Rachel’s request. While training was harsh, Jubei felt Ragna needed it, it being necessary if Ragna were ever to control the Azure Grimoire inside of his hand. The training continued for many years to come and finally, when Jubei felt Ragna was ready, he presented him with two gifts. A red jacket and a scythe in the form of a blunt sword. Both of these objects, the jacket and Blood-Scythe had belonged to a man whom in the past weakened the Black Beast, sacrificing his life to allow the Six Heroes to properly defeat it. Taking the man’s moniker, Bloodedge as his own, Ragna The Bloodedge was born…
Harboring a deep hatred for the NOL and their ways, Ragna decided to travel from city to city, causing a ruckus and destroying each base the NOL had strategically placed. Due to these actions of destruction and carnage, Ragna ended up becoming a world-wide known criminal, his title becoming ‘The Grim Reaper’ and the bounty on his head having been said to be ‘large enough to fund a small country.’ Despite the bounty on his head, Ragna continues to travel from place to place, city to city, without any fear whatsoever. This may have something to do with the confidence he has in his own abilities, as Ragna does not worry about being detected nor captured by any NOL agents, or any random vigilantes.
After a few choice encounters, Ragna ended up coming to the Sheol Gate. After various years, Ragna finally ended up reuniting with Jin who still seemed to harbor his insane brother complex. Fighting Jin twice and each time defeating him, Ragna then came across Hakumen, who stated he would destroy Ragna, assuming Ragna was the Black Beast itself, considering he made up it’s body. Facing off against Nu to stop her from nearly killing him after the aforementioned events, numerous other ones began to unfold. After the aforementioned incident, Noel Vermillion ends up traveling around with Ragna. The only reason Ragna allowed this was due to the fact that Noel resembled his sister, Saya. After an amount of traveling, Ragna decides that they can no longer travel together and rather harshly tells her to get lost. After this, Noel informs Ragna that when they meet up again it will be as enemies, putting a large amount of foreshadowing into play. Coming across one Carl Clover after this, whose goal is to steal Ragna’s Azure Grimoire, Ragna ends up defeating him but once his mind goes elsewhere for a split second, Ragna is struck by Carl’s Nox Nyctores; Nirvana. Severely injured, Ragna passes out, and then awakes in the Kaka clan’s village, alongside Taokaka. The next few days are spent by Ragna recovering, before he reacquires himself and heads off once again.
Ragna then comes across Platinum the Trinity under her Luna and Sena personas, though the whole meeting only proves to confuse the hell out of him. Afterward, Ragna comes across, faces, and defeats Lambda-11, all due to the fact that the scientist Kokonoe screwed up the teleportation process. Kokonoe warns Ragna that if he is to ever come across Terumi Yuuki not to fight him, because he won’t win. When Kokonoe brings Noel up, Ragna runs off to find Rachel who after a fight, tells Ragna where to go, but also repeats the same warning Kokonoe had given. Ragna ends up running into Jin afterward, who further pushes the same thing both Kokonoe and Rachel told him upon defeat. Despite this warning however, Ragna still ends up coming across and fighting against Terumi, who ends up thrashing him around badly due to the fact that Terumi is able to nullify Ragna’s Azure due to being the true creator in the first place.
Without having a choice, Ragna ends up having to watch Noel descend from the cauldron as Mu-12, Terumi’s own creation. However, before Terumi can kill Ragna, Nu/v-13 jumps in the way. Saying that all she thought about was Ragna and that she will forever be by his side, Nu fades from existence, but not before giving Ragna the ability to tap into Lambda’s Idea Engine. With the Idea Engine giving Ragna the ability to tap into the true Azure with his imitation, Ragna fights and properly defeats Terumi. However, this only served to “warm him up”, as Ragna rushes over and assists in releasing Rachel from the binding spell she was put under. Afterward, Ragna turns to fight against Noel, now as Mu-12. Ragna, sacrificing his left arm, smashes his left hand into Mu-12’s head, utilizing the power of the True Azure Grimoire to “wake” Noel up, utilizing the Idea Engine. However, despite this, Ragna ends up losing his entire left arm from the move. To Ragna, however, it was a small sacrifice to make.
Severely weakened, Ragna can only watch in awe as he finds out that Terumi, along with Relius Clover, are working for the very younger sister Ragna thought was murdered those many years ago; Saya. Exclaiming in utter shock, Ragna is forced to listen to Saya speak about how she is going to effect the world and make it a place where if you die once, it is permanent, and there is no way to come back. After Saya disappears with Terumi and Relius, Ragna ends up leaving back to Sector Seven with Jin and Noel. Obtaining a new mechanical arm from Kokonoe, who used parts from Lambda that were still functional, Ragna ends up joining Sector Seven and leaves out for Ikaruga. Jubei orders Taokaka to go along with Ragna, much to his dismay, though Ragna does come to the conclusion that even if he tried to stop her she would still come along anyways. Ragna and Taokaka then set off for Ikaruga, Ragna saying that there is “something that he needs to do there.”

Whang! Zang! Clang! The sound of crossing weapons flew outward as Ragna slammed his foot down, his body sliding backward. A red hued eye coupled with a green hued eye focused on the blond before him, as a snarl curled outward. The man dressed in red, named Ragna The Bloodedge infamous among the world for his Grim Reaper ways and gaining a bounty able to fund a small country, was currently engaging in battle along with his brother, the blond haired NOL Major, Jin Kisaragi. As Yukianesa clashed once more with Blood-Scythe, the sound of metal upon metal rang out around the Library, as Ragna took a jumping dtep backward. Thoughts processed in his mind of his next move, as Jin let out an insane laugh. Hearing Jin taunt him, Ragna would leap backward and charge a purple aura into his fist. As Jin used Yukianesa to form a ice spear that he rode toward Ragna, exclaiming “Brother!” during, Ragna launched forward with his fist, exclaiming “Jin” during.
As the attacks collided, Jin along with Ragna were sent backward in opposite directions, slamming into walls of the Library. “D-Damn it…” Ragna grunted out as he quickly picked himself up to a full stand, watching Jin’s unmoving form carefully. Feet wobbled as Jin seemed unconscious, Ragna taking very careful steps over toward him. Slamming down to one knee, Ragna could feel the energy flooding out of his body, as another grunt proceeded forward. “Un…” was the last sound Ragna was able to make, as he felt his chest crash onto the floor. From the collision of power, Ragna along with Jin was left unconscious, as a harsh wind was blown, moving leaves through the air to flutter around a bit before falling down by Jin and Ragna.
